O panorama brasileiro da agricultura e silvicultura requer uma nova abordagem para a avaliação da aptidão das terras para uso florestal. Neste estudo foram propostas modificações no Sistema de Avaliação da Aptidão Agrícola das Terras, utilizado pela EMBRAPA/CNPS, que foram testadas no campus da UFRRJ. Grupos e subgrupos de aptidão agrícola para silvicultura foram criados para os níveis de manejo A, B e C. Ainda, terras de relevante interesse ecológico foram incluídas no conceito de terras inaptas, independentemente de seu potencial agrícola.

The present scenario of Brazilian agriculture and forestry requires a new approach to assess the land capabifity for forest cultivation. In this study modifications in the System of Evaluation of the Land Agricultural Capability, utilized by EMBRAPA/ CNPS, were proposed and tested on the campus of Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. Groups and sub groups of land capability for forest production were created for the levels of management A, B and C. Also, lands identified as ecologically important were included in the concept of non-arable lands, independently of their agricutural potential.
