Instructions to Authors


Original paper: These are researches/studies whose results are base on concrete data obtained experimentally, or collected in the literature, or from other reliable sources. They shall be structured as follows: Introduction and objectives; Materials and methods; Results and discussion (allowed to be separated); Conclusions; and References. It must be submitted in texts no longer than 20 (twenty) pages, with double space between lines; they may contain charts, tables and figures (graphs and photos).

Review article:Review article will only be accepted by invitation of the Editorial Board. They are considered articles of special content whose relevance is within the necessity of the complete literary basis of a given theme. They shall be submitted as follows: text with 30 pages maximum, considering the Double space between lines, may contain tables and figures (Graphs and photos).

Short Communication: Articles that describe innovative and very important events in the area of the Forestry and Environmental Sciences. Must be written clearly focusing direct results and/or originals proposals. It is expected that the scientific communication contain important contributions to the scientific community. The Communications don't follow the classic divisions of a traditional papers, should flow in a single text, putting in references and technical detailed notes and other relevant comments. May be included graphs and tables. All Communication must not overcome the limit of 6 pages considering the spaces between lines.


Linking: Submission of an article implies that it has not been published previously; is not being evaluated for publication in any other journal; its publication has been approved by all authors and institution where the study was conducted. The publisher will not be legally responsible for the content of it.

Each work must necessarily be classified as Original Article, Review Article or Short Communication. In the submission phase, authors must indicate at least three reviewers with experience in the article's area of expertise.

Permissions: Paper with figures, tables or texts that have already been published, will have to mandatorily quote the source and the year of the same. All material without this quote will be assumed to belong to the authors.

Online Submission: The articles shall be submitted on-line at or Authors should verify whether they are registered in the system; otherwise, they must register prior to article submission. The submitting author must have an Orcid ID associated with the ScholarOne account. The association of the Orcid ID can be made by the user in the ScholarOne system. After entering the system, the user should click on his name, at the top of the screen, and then on "E-mail / Name". On the screen that opens, you can choose to create a new Orcid ID or associate an existing Orcid ID with your ScholarOne account.

After the login, authors should access the "Author's Panel" and follow the submission instructions provided by the system. The manuscript must be sent in one single file, with title, text and figures/tables. In order to assure anonymity in the review / evaluation process, the following information should not be included in the submitted files: authors, affiliation, funding sources and acknowledgements. This information is collected through the admission system. It is the responsibility of the Editorial Secretariat to immediately reject the article that does not fall within the current norms.

Languages: Portuguese, Spanish and English will be accepted for submission. After the acceptance, articles submitted in Portuguese or Spanish should be translated into English for publication (see details in Item PUBLICATION). 

There are no fees for submission and review articles.


All articles accepted for publication in the Forest and Environment Journal will be published in English only. Thus, the article submitted in Portuguese or Spanish, if accepted, must be translated into English before publication.

By accepting an article, FLORAM will indicate to the author some companies and professionals for the translation service. But the author is free to hire the service of other companies or professionals specialized in the translation of articles of the area.

Regardless of the choice, the authors must present a translation certificate together with the article.

The accepted paper will be published in full in electronic version (ISSN: 2179-8087)

All articles accepted from 2018 will only be sent for publication after all the authors involved have associated their respective Orcids IDs to their accounts in the ScholarOne system. The association of the Orcid ID can be made by the user in the ScholarOne system. After entering the system, the user should click on his name, at the top of the screen, and then on "E-mail / Name". On the screen that opens, you can choose to create a new Orcid ID or associate an existing Orcid ID with your ScholarOne account.


The maximum number of authors per paper is 05 (five). Exceeded this limit, the authors will have to send a letter to the editor-in-chief, at the time of submission, stating what is the scientific contribution of each of them. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of submission.

Names of new authors cannot be added after article submission has been finalized. If it is extremely necessary to include names of new authors, the submission will be canceled and the article will have to be resubmitted, and a new evaluation phase will be carried out. Also, it is worth mentioning that all names of authors must only be included in the specific field of the submission system and never in the text of the article.


All the papers send to FLORAM, after analyzing the merits by the Chief Editor and / or Associate Editors, will be submitted to peer review process. The reviewer will answer a questionnaire with specific questions about the article. At the end they will make general comments about the work and report if it can be published, corrected according to the recommendations or rejected definitely. For evaluation of the articles the magazine adopts the double-blind advisory system , that is, the reviewer doesn't know the authors of the work that its being analyzed and the authors do not know who did the review of their work.


In case there is any conflict of interests, the authors shall indicate which one(s), during the article submission process. Simultaneously, the authors shall transfer the copyright of the work to Brazilian Journal of Forestry and Environment.


When reporting studies that involve human participants, authors should include a statement that the studies have been approved by the appropriate institutional and/or national research ethics committee.

The following statements should be included in the text before the References section:

Ethical approval: “All procedures performed in studies involving human participants were in accordance with the ethical standards of the institutional and/or national research committee.

The welfare of animals used for research must be respected. When reporting experiments on animals, authors should indicate whether the institutional and/or national guidelines for the care and use of animals were followed.

For studies with animals, the following statement should be included:

“All applicable institutional and/or national guidelines for the care and use of animals were followed.”



TThe text (including the abstract) must be edited in Microsoft Word, on A4 size paper, with all margins of 2.5 cm, font Times New Roman 12 and double-spacing. Pages and lines must not be numbered. Figures, tables and illustrations must be inserted in the body of the text. In "REFERENCES " (see item References) the text must contain simple spacing.

Front page:

For articles submitted in PORTUGUESE and SPANISH - articles must contain, in this order: Title, Abstract, Keywords, Title in English, Abstract in English, and Keywords in English.

For articles submitted in ENGLISH - articles must contain, in this order: Title, Abstract and Keywords.

Title: Objective and succinct, avoiding expressions like "Studies on; Contribution to; About one; Lifting; Investigation of, etc. ". It must be centered and contain a maximum of 12 words. Scientific name must be in italics and the common names should only be used if the species is widely known and unequivocal.

Abstract: It should contain at least 40 and a maximum of 150 words.

Keywords: Enter three to five keywords. Words present in the Title of the article should not be used.

Text Structure: The article should be structured with the following items: INTRODUCTION; MATERIAL AND METHODS; RESULTS AND DISCUSSION (may be in separate items); CONCLUSIONS; and REFERENCES.

Introduction: It should be brief, clarify the problem studied, cite relevant literature on the subject and conclude with the objective of the study.

NOTE: Do not put authors' names, affiliation, e-mail adress, acknowledgments and funding source in the manuscript. This information will be collected during the article submission through the submission system. The Word file name should not contain the authors' names.


Figures: Must be presented with resolution above 300dpi and have justified alignment. The title should be self-explained, numbered in Arabic numerals, aligned in the left margin, without indentation and positioned just below the figure. This includes graphics, photograph (sharp and contrasting), drawing, etc. All the pictures should be quoted in the text. Articles submitted in Portuguese / Spanish must present the titles of the Figures in Portuguese / Spanish and also in English, as shown below.

Tables: They should supplement and not just duplicate the text. They must be numbered in Arabic numerals, sent in an editable format (recommended Excel), and jusfitied. The title should be self-explainatory, aligned in the left margin, with no indentation and positioned above the table. All the tables should be quoted in the text. Articles submitted in Portuguese / Spanish should present the titles of the Tables in Portuguese / Spanish and also in English, according to the following example.

Equations: must be numbered and quoted in the text.

Units of measurement: must be presented as the International System of Units (SI).


- One author: Gottlieb (1996) or (Gottlieb, 1996)
- Two authors: Stell & Torres (1989) or (Stell & Torres, 1989)
- More than two authors: Valle et al. (1998) or (Valle et al., 1998)


The references must be presented in alphabetical order. Each reference must be presented in one paragraph, without indentation and with single spacing (1.0). The paragraphs of the references must be separated from each other by an additional paragraph (an empty line).


1) References with more than 10 years of publication should be avoided and are limited to a maximum of 50% of all article citations.

2) We will not accept quotes from: monographs, dissertations and theses, abstracts at congresses, conferences, meetings and other events, papers presented at congresses and articles from non-scientific journals.

On the references, present up to six authors. For references with more than 6 authors present the names of the 6 first authors followed of the expression et al. Ex: Mattos ADM, Jacovine LAG, Valverde SR, Agostinho LS, Silva ML, Lima, JE et al.
