Instructions to Authors



Original paper: The manuscripts should be researches/studies whose results accrue from concrete information obtained from data collected experimentally, in the literature, or other reliable source. They shall be structured as follows: Introduction and objectives; Materials and methods; Results and discussion (allowed to be separated); Conclusions; and References. Be submitted in texts no longer than 20 (twenty) pages, with double space between lines; they may contain charts, tables and figures (graphs and photos). 

Review article: Review article will only be accepted by invitation of the Editorial Board. They are considered articles of special content whose relevance is within the necessity of the complete literary basis of a given theme. They shall be submitted as follows:text with 30 pages maximum, considering the Double space between lines, may contain tables and figures (Graphs and photos).

Short Communication: Articles that describe innovative and very important events in the area of the Environmental and Social Sciences. Must be written clearly focusing direct results and/or originals proposals. It is expected that the scientific communication contain important contributions to the scientific community. The communications don't follow the classic divisions of a traditional papers, should flow in a single text, putting in references and technical detailed notes and other relevant comments. May be included graphs and tables. All the Paper must not overcome the limit of 6 pages considering the spaces between lines.


Article Submission: Submission of an article implies: that it has not been published previously; that is not being evaluated for publication in any other journal; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors and institution where the study was conducted. The publisher shall not be liable legally for the content of it.

Permissions: Paper with figures, tables or texts that have already been published elsewhere, will have to mandatorily quote the source and the year of the same. All material without this quote will be assumed by the authors.

Online Submission: he articles shall be submitted on-line at or Authors should verify whether they are registered in the system; otherwise, they must register prior to article submission. After login, authors should access the "Author's Panel" located on the upper left menu and follow the submission instructions provided by the system. The manuscript must be sent in one single file, with title, text and figures/tables. In order to assure anonymity in the Peer Rating Process, the file shall not contain the following items: authors, affiliation, funding sources and acknowledgements. This information is collected through the admission system. The Editor is granted the right to reject articles that do not comply with the current norms of the journal.


Only articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish whose themes are within the cutting edge of pure and applied science will be accepted. Each work shall obligatory fit as Research Article, Review Article or Article of Scientific Communication.

If the article is in English, it does not need the translation of the title, abstract, keywords, tables and figures in Portuguese. In this case the article will be fully submitted in English.

Whatever the language, the work will be published in full in electronic version (ISSN: 2179-8087).


The maximum number of authors per paper is 05 (five). Articles containing more than 05 (five) authors, it must send a letter to the editor-in-chief, at the time of submission, stating what is the scientific contribution of each of them. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of submission.

Names of new authors cannot be added after article submission has been finalized. If it is extremely necessary to include names of new authors, the journal should be informed. In this case, the submission will be canceled and the article will have to be resubmitted, and a new evaluation phase will be carried out. Also, it is worth mentioning that all names of new authors should only be included in the specific field of the submission system and never in the text of the article.


All the papers send to FLORAM will be subjected to peer review, selected by the editor-in-chef or the associated editors. The peer review will respond a questionnaire with specific questions about the article. On the end they will make general comments about the work and report if it should be published, correct following the recommendations or definitely rejected. In possession of these data, the editor in chief will make the final decision. In case of discrepancy between the peer, it may be requested a new opinion for a better judgment. When changes have been suggested, they will be forwarded to the main author and then to the reviewers so they can verify if the requirements have been met. After publishing, the manuscripts will be sent to the author so they can verify themselves if the paper don't have any mistake. The whole process will be done by the system online. In case of delay, a new evaluator will be chosen, the same happening if one of them refuses to examine the work. For evaluation of the articles the magazine adopts the system of advisory services know as double-blind, i.e., the peer doesn't know the authors of the work that its being analyzed and the authors do not know who did the review of his work.


In case there is any conflict of interests, the authors shall indicate which one(s), during the article submission process. Simultaneously, the authors shall transfer the copyright of the work to Brazilian Journal of Forestry and Environment.


- Formatting: The text should be edited in Word for Windows, double-spaced, on A4 size paper (21 x 29.7 cm), with the top, bottom, right and left margin 2.5 cm, font Times New Roman 12 and should not have page numbers. Figures, tables and illustrations should be inserted in the text.

- Text Body: Should be structured according to the requirements given in the item Types of Manuscripts (cited above).

First page of articles submitted in PORTUGUESE AND SPANISH:

Title: Objective and succinct, avoiding expressions like ";Studies about, the contribution; About one; Survey of, Investigation of, etc.."; with a maximum of 12 words. All the words in lower case and scientific names in italics, centered text. When the title contains the scientific name should be avoided mention of the hierarchical taxonomic level higher than the species belongs. Just use common name if the species is widely known and unequivocal.

Title: The Title must be in English.

Abstract: It should contain at least 40 and a maximum of 150 words and three keywords.

Abstract: The abstract must be in English.

Keywords: Enter three to five keywords. One should not repeat words already in the title.

Keywords: Keywords must be in English.

NOTE: Do not put authors' names, affiliation, e-mail, thanks and funding source. This information will be collected during the article submission through the submission system.

First page of the articles submitted in ENGLISH:

Title: The Title must be in English.

Abstract: The abstract must be in English.

Keywords: Keywords must be in English.

NOTE: When the article is submitted in the English language there is no need to include the title, abstract and keywords in Portuguese. All text should be only in English.


Pictures: Should be presented with good resolution (above 300dpi). The title should be self-explained, written in Portuguese, Spanish or English, numbered in arabic numeral, aligned on the left border and positioned under the picture. It includes graphics, photos (clear and with contrast), drawing, etc. All the pictures should be mentioned on the text.

Tables: Should be additional and not duplicate the text, numbered in arabic numeral and sent in editable format (recommended Excel). The title should be self-explained, written in Portuguese, Spanish or English, aligned on the left border and positioned under the picture. All the tables should be mentioned on the text.

Equations: should be numbered and cited in the text.

Measure units: Should be presented as the International System of Units (SI).


- One author: Gottlieb (1996) or (Gottlieb, 1996)
- Two authors: Stell & Torres (1989) or (Stell & Torres, 1989)
- More than two authors: Valle et al. (1998) or (Valle et al., 1998)


The references should follow the Vancouver style, presented in alphabetical order. Should type the references on the left border using simple space (one) between the lines and double space to separate the references from each other.

On the references, presented until the 6 first authors. For references with more than 6 authors presented the names of the 6 first authors followed of the expression et al. Ex: Mattos ADM, Jacovine LAG, Valverde SR, Agostinho LS, Silva ML, Lima, JE et al.

You should avoid simple citation of the abstracts, citing only expanded abstracts of Congress or others same nature scientific events.
